Make these high-protein oats overnight
You can easily turn this recipe into overnight oats if you’d prefer to grab n’ go in the morning or want a cooler treat for warmer months.
To make these high protein overnight oats, follow the recipe below up until step xx, where you microwave the oats for a second time. Instead, allow the mixture to sit overnight in the refrigerator.
Is oatmeal good for a high-protein diet?
Oatmeal can be great for a high-protein diet.
A half-cup serving of oats contains about 5g of protein and 23g net carbs, according to the USDA.
So yes, oats are definitely more carb than protein. But oatmeal is one of the easiest quick meals you can throw together on the go and boost with protein powder.
Why this oatmeal is a great pre-workout snack
The carbs in the oats, protein and — if you use regular peanut butter — fats, make for a combination that’ll keep you full for longer.
Oats are complex carbohydrates, which take longer to break down and keep you energized for longer while maintaining stable blood sugar levels.
The antioxidants in berries can also provide nutrients that pave the way for a smoother recovery.
Make this oatmeal recipe more filling
This recipe contains ¼ cup of oats. If you’d like a more satiating meal, consider doubling the amount of oats in this recipe and increasing the amount of milk accordingly.
What can I add to my oatmeal?
Some of my favorite toppings or add-ins for these high-protein oats include:
- Cinnamon
- Cacao nibs
- Cardamom
- Lemon zest
- Vanilla extract
- Creatine (for the gym girlies and guys)
